I am a research associate and Ph.D. candidate in the Animal Population Health Institute (APHI) at Colorado State University. Although I am a biologist by training and an epidemiologist by profession, much of my time is spent writing computer software to address problems in the biological sciences. I have written and published a variety of applications used by epidemiologists, cytogeneticists, phylogeneticists, developmental biologists, and (occasionally) other software developers.

Most of my attention is currently devoted to the development and application of NAADSM, a computer program that uses Monte Carlo methods to simulate the spread and control of infectious diseases in livestock. My doctoral work is heavily dependent on the creation and application of open source computer models similar to NAADSM. As time allows, I also continue to support other open source scientific software applications I have developed.
